Albert Pierre Gibert, 86, of Mt. Airy, NC, went home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 15, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born in Abbeville, SC to John Baskin and Janie Waters Gibert on May 31, 1926. After graduation from Memphis Technical High School, he served two years in the United States Navy during World War II. He attended Erskine College and then the University of South Carolina, where he received a BA degree in journalism. He was employed by the federal government as a social worker for several years. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed studying God's Word. He was a former member of the Abbeville Presbyterian Church in Abbeville, SC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gibert was preceded in death by three sisters; Leila Voris of Mt. Airy, NC, Mary Mitchell of Rock Hill, SC, infant sister, Margaret Gibert, of Abbeville, SC; and two brothers, James Gibert of Rodman, SC and John Gibert of Lubbock, TX. Surviving are nieces and nephews and their spouses; Sydney and Robert Ferris of Mt. Airy, NC, Anne and Clay Junior Forrest of Pilot Mountain, NC, Rev. Kathryn and David Dudley of Sanford, NC, Jane Mitchell of Rock Hill, SC, Franklin Mitchell of Due West, SC, Reba Murdock of Plano, TX, Wayne and Charlene Gibert of Katy, TX; and several great-nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Abbeville, SC with the Rev. Arnold Johnson officiating. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff at Woltz Hospice Home for their loving care during Mr. Gibert's final days.
