Albert L. Giles, Jr., 89, of Abbeville, husband of Jean Cartledge Giles, died Friday, May 14, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Albert L. Giles, Sr. and Lillie Mae Carpenter Giles.
A 1951 graduate of Antreville High School, Mr. Giles honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a Mason and member of the Dew Drop Lodge #266 in Antreville. Formerly employed in construction, after tenure of 25 years with the City of Abbeville Police Department, he retired as Police Chief. Following retirement, Mr. Giles enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Giles Russum; a son-in-law, Rudy King, and a niece, Rhonda R. Callaway.
Mr. Giles is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean Cartledge Giles of the home; three children; Wanda King, Albert L. ‘Al’ Giles, III (Vickie) and Jeff Giles (Cissy) all of Abbeville; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a nephew.
Graveside services will be 3:00PM, Sunday, May 16, 2021 in Bells United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Scott Allen officiating.
