Alice Stafford Berry, 88, of Abbeville, SC, went home to be with her Lord on July 11, 2013 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Berry, to whom she was a devoted wife for 48 years. Mrs. Berry was born in Opelousas, LA to the late Thomas Lesley and Pearl Fowler Stafford. She graduated from Louisiana Tech and retired from the Army Corp of Engineers. Prior to 1994 she and her husband Jack resided in Jacksonville, FL where they were active members of their church, lovingly serving in many capacities throughout the years. Mrs. Berry moved to Abbeville in 1994 after the death of her husband and has been a member of New Covenant Church in Greenwood. Alice loved her Lord Jesus Christ and loved people. She touched the lives of many through her generosity, kindness, and thankful heart. She was famous for her hugs and encouraging notes. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Lee Stafford. She was a loving mother to her three daughters, Polly Berry McConn (Everett), of Gainesville, FL, Betsy Berry Henry (Brian), of Abbeville, SC and Patty Berry Maines (Mark) of Orlando, FL. "GranBerry" was loved by her nine grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew (Chantel), Patrick (Sally) and Susanna McConn, Amy McConn Freeman (James), Courtney, Nelson and Kimberly Henry, and Mason Maines as well as two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Gabriel McConn. She is also survived by two special sisters-in-law, Valerie Stafford, of Lafayette, LA and Lillian Martin of Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Harris Funeral Home in Abbeville. Funeral services will be 4:00PM Sunday, July 14, 2013 at New Covenant Church in Greenwood with the Rev. David Harrell officiating. Burial will be Monday, July 15, 2013 at 4:00PM in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL. The family is at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Brian Henry in Abbeville.
