Arthur Young

Arthur Young, 98, of Abbeville SC, died Wednesday August 21, 2024 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. He was born May 20, 1926, the son of the late Clifton W. and Henrietta Martin Young. 

A graduate of Abbeville High School and Columbia Commercial College, Mr. Young honorably served his country in the United States Army and European Theater during WWII. Employed with the US Postal Service, he retired after years of dedicated service. Mr. Young was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 62 for 15 years, and member of the Abbeville Lions Club and Abbeville Jaycees where he served as a past president. Mr. Young was a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church and the Open Door Sunday School class. He loved to work in the garden with his flowers. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Young was preceded in death by his siblings, Ethel Wilson, Eula Mae McCurry, Charles C. Young, Frances Clark, James W. Young, Mary Speer, and Rayford E. “PeeWee” Young. 

Mr. Young is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Forest Memory Gardens with Rev. Dr. Alvin Hodges officiating. 

Memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Young, may be sent to Rice Memorial Church Building Fund, 1975 SC-72, Greenwood, SC 29649.
