Betty Joyce Gilliam

Betty Joyce Gilliam, 89, of Calhoun Falls, wife of the late Olin Gilliam, died Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at her home. She was born in Abbeville to the late Walter Hughes and Vera Loftis Hughes.

A graduate of Abbeville High School, Betty retired from West Point Stevens in Calhoun Falls after many years of dedicated service. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty was of the Presbyterian faith.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Olen Hammett, Debbie Gilliam and Barbara Jennings; two brothers, Walter Reed Hughes and Robert Hughes; two sisters, Lois Harrison and Anne Humphries; a grandson, Brad Jennings; two sons-in-law Donnie Shiflet, and Robbie Young. 

Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda Shiflet of Calhoun Falls; seven grandchildren, four of which were reared in the home, Jeffery (Lindsey) Gilliam of North Augusta SC, Kevin Shiflet, Amanda Hammett, Rebekah Hammett, Nicole Shiflet, all of Calhoun Falls, Michelle (James) Rice of Easley SC, and LeeAnn (Chris) Dooley of Honea Path SC, and eleven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 2:00PM – 3:00PM, Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Calhoun Falls Church of God. Funeral services will begin at 3:00PM in the church sanctuary with Pastor Thomas Guinn officiating. Burial will follow in Latimer cemetery.

The family is at the home of her grand-daughter, Amanda Hammett, in Calhoun Falls.
