Beverly Eakin Wilson, 81, of Abbeville, wife of William T. ‘Billy’ Wilson, Jr., died Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at her home. She was born in Honea Path to the late Louis O’Dell and Mina McAdams Eakin.
A proud 1961 graduate of Dixie High School, Beverly pursued her higher education at Erskine College before graduating from Newberry College with a major in English. She started her teaching career at Piedmont Technical College. She continued her academic journey by obtaining a masters degree in Library Science from the University of South Carolina. Beverly was a devoted educator and librarian, leaving a lasting mark on the Abbeville County School District. She began her career teaching briefly at Wright Middle School and later as a media specialist and librarian at Calhoun Falls High School, from which she retired. Beverly inspired countless students throughout her career to embrace the joy of reading and imagination.
She proudly held memberships in the Abbeville Historic Preservation Commission, the Abbeville Cotillion Club, and the Abbeville Woman’s Club. Additionally, her commitment to community service was evident by her role as a founding member of The Heritage House.
Beverly found joy in reading, caring for animals and water-skiing. Her unwavering faith led her to teach Sunday School for many years at Main Street Methodist Church where she was a dedicated member.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delle Eakin Alden.
Beverly is survived by her husband of 58 years, Billy, of the home; two sons, William T. ‘Wes’ (Kimberly) Wilson, III of Lake Wylie, SC and Dr. Eric M. Wilson of Greensboro, NC; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 1:30PM – 2:30PM, Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. A celebration of Beverly’s life will begin at 3:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brandon Fulmer officiating.
