Billie Barrett Harry

March 21, 1925 — October 8, 2018

Billie Barrett ‘B.B.’ Harry, 93, of McCormick, husband of the late Marguerite Flynn Harry, entered into rest, Monday, October 8, 2018 at his home.  Born in Waynesboro, VA, he was the son of the late Robert B. Harry, Sr. and Mary Delle Barrett Harry.

Mr. Harry was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; as well as, the American Legion.  Mr. Harry was a life time Master Mason of Mine Lodge No. 117 and a member of McCormick First Baptist Church.  Formerly, he was a shareholder of the McCormick Messenger and served as the Chairman of the Board.  Mr. Harry was also on the Board of Directors for the McCormick Senior Center for several years.  He was active with the South Carolina Red Cross blood donation program, Aiken Chapter, having donated 15 gallons of blood.  Mr. Harry gave his first pint of blood at an Army Field Hospital on the Island of New Guinea in 1943.

He joined the DuPont Company in Waynesboro, VA in 1949 and was transferred to the DuPont operations at the Savannah River nuclear plant in Aiken County in 1952.  Mr. Harry retired, with 36 years of service, from DuPont in 1985 and moved to McCormick County.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marguerite Flynn Harry.

Mr. Harry is survived by a son, Robert B. Harry of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth H. Fabbro of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Barrett Fabbro, Bradley Fabbro and Brandon Fabbro all of Greenwood; a sister, Mary Louise Sparger and her husband, Guy, of Mt. Airy, NC; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Flynn Beckworth of McCormick, SC.

The family will receive friends 10:00am – 11:00am, Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the McCormick First Baptist Church.  A Memorial Service, with military honors, will begin at 11:00am in the church sanctuary with Rev. Michael Allen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Harry, be sent to McCormick First Baptist Church, PO Box 416, McCormick, SC 29835 or McCormick Senior Center, PO Box 684, McCormick, SC 29835.
