Billy S. Kay, 86, of Abbeville, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson. He was born in Abbeville, SC to the late William F. and Ollie Sharpe Kay. Mr. Kay, along with his three brothers, served in the U.S Army where he was a World War II veteran. After serving in the U.S. Army, he joined the S.C. National Guard 178th Infantry Field Artillery Battalion in Abbeville for seven years. Mr. Kay was a life long member of Upper Long Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and former Chairman of the Building & Grounds Committee. He worked at the Milliken-Abbeville Plant and retired from Prysmian (Pirelli/General Cable). After retirement, Mr. Kay opened Kay's Fixit Shop which was in operation for 29 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, John C. Kay, Marion B. "Benny' Kay and William Francis Kay, Jr.; a nephew, Johnny Kay; and a great-great-nephew, John Michael Evans. Surviving Mr. Kay are, Karen K. Higgins, Vivian K. Moore, Fran K. Wiley, Nancy K. Hogan, and Jean K. Broughton, Melva N. Kay, Dan Kay, Mary McKee, Melvin and Sarah Jean Clark; eight great-nieces and nephews and six great-great nieces and nephews. The family will receive family and friends from 2:00PM to 3:30PM on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will begin at 4:00PM at Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Roy E. Beckham officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery with military honors. Serving as Pallbearers will be Dan Kay, Hilliard Allen, Arthur Lloyd, Mike Evans and Frank Knox. Honorary Pallbearers will be R.A. Hagen, Rev. Lonnie E. Watford, Rev. Marion W. Adams, John L. Smith and men of Upper Long Cane Church that can attend. The families are at their respective homes. Memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Kay, may be sent to the Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church General Fund or to the Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund, 194 Hwy. 20, Abbeville, SC 29620 A message of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting www.harrisfuneral.com.
