Calvin Knox Grier, Sr.

Calvin K. Grier, 90, of Due West, widower of Louise Osborne Grier, died Thursday, December 7, 2023 at The Renaissance.  Born in Louisville, KY to Joseph Lee Grier and Ruth Morrison Grier.

A 1955 graduate of Erskine College, Mr. Grier was employed with Sears Roebuck & Co. in Atlanta, GA and New Orleans, LA.  He honorably served his country in the United States Army.  Mr. Grier ministered as an elder in the Woodland Presbyterian Church, the St. Charles Ave. Presbyterian church in New Orleans and Young Memorial A.R.P church in Anderson.  He also volunteered at Bonclarken, Camp Joy, New Orleans Meals on Wheels and STAIR.  Mr. Grier enjoyed entertaining family at Bonclarken.

He was preceded in death by Joseph Lee Grier, Eugene Morrison Grier, Adelaide Grier Folensbee and a son-in-law, Timothy Pickles.

Mr. Grier is survived by his children, Calvin Grier, Jr. (Trina) of Berkeley Lake, GA, Ben Grier (Allison) of Hendersonville, NC and Mary L. Grier Holmes of Due West, SC; eight grandchildren, Alex Holmes (Victoria), Sallie Holmes, Grier Holmes, Hank Grier, Drew Grier, Charlie Grier, Callie Grier and Emme Grier; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Lesesne (Joe) of Spartanburg, SC.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Pinecrest ARP Church, 1790 Greenville Hwy, Hendersonville, NC 28792.  A short memorial service will be held at 3:00PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at The Renaissance in Due West.  Inurnment will be in Statesville, NC.
