Tech Sergeant Carl Rexford Pelfrey, Sr., RET. USAF, 82, of Anderson, formally of Abbeville, died peacefully at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson on Saturday, June 19, 2010. Mr. Pelfrey was twice married, first to the late Mary Davis Pelfrey and to Betty Jo Grubbs Pelfrey. He was born in Jackson, Kentucky to the late William Roland Pelfrey and Ola Howard Pelfrey. Mr. Pelfrey retired from the United States Air-Force with 22 years of dedicated service in WWII and the Korean War. He was of the Baptist faith and was a former employee of the Abbeville County Sheriffs Department. Surviving Mr. Pelfrey is his wife of 10 years of Anderson; two sons, Carl R. 'Rex' Pelfrey, Jr., and his wife Patricia of Abbeville and William R. 'Jack' Pelfrey and his fiancA?A?A½ Tamara of Abbeville; two daughters, Jan Evans and her husband Mike of Abbeville and Cheryl Rice of Gainesville, GA; two sisters, Geraldine 'Gran' Anker and Jeanette Koenig both of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three grandchildren, Chad and Brent Evans and Kim Clay; and four great-grandchildren, Preston and Riley Evans and Grant and Zack Clay. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM on Monday, June 21, 2010 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:30AM on Monday in the funeral home chapel. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The family is at their respective homes.
