Carrie Ashley Smith

Carrie Ashley Smith, 91, of Due West, died Monday, August 5, 2024 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood. Ms. Smith was born in Abbeville, SC to the late Lawrence O. and Bessie Bell Ashley. 

Carrie was retired from the textile industry with many years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Eastern Stars and worshipped at Little River Baptist Church. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, L.O. Ashley, Proctor Ashley, John Orr Ashley, Harvey Ashley, Leonard Ashley and Ivy Ashley and three sisters, Edna Bannister, Margaret Ashley and Eva Mae Ashley McCord.

Carrie is survived by her daughter, Debbie Hawthorne (Arthur) of Iva and son, Steve Smith (Diane) of Due West; two sisters-in-law, Estherphine C. Ashley of Abbeville and Marilyn Ashley of Hiawassee, GA; four grandchildren, Weston (Wanda), Charles, Amber (Neal), and Cruse (Kelsey); eight great-grandchildren, Wade, Brylie, Mallie, Macie, Coleson, future baby Smith, Matti, and Taylor; two great-great-grandchildren, Reece and Tinley; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in Little River Baptist Church sanctuary. A service to celebrate Carrie’s life will begin at 2:30PM at Little River Baptist Church with Rev. Garrett Hart officiating. Inurnment will follow in Keowee Baptist Church cemetery.

The family is at their respective homes.
