Charles S. Burden

September 19, 1926 — May 5, 2016

Charles Stephen Burden, 89, of Calhoun Falls, husband of the late Betty Jordan Burden, died Thursday, May 5, 2016 in Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was born in Elberton, GA to the late Lee Llewellyn Burden and Myrtle Chastain Burden. Mr. Burden served our country in the United States Navy for four years during World War II and was a member of the Calhoun Falls American Legion Post 72. He retired from Burlington Industries and was employed as a Security Guard for American Security for many years. Mr. Burden attended Northside Baptist Church and will be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy Ray Burden and Walton Stanley Burden; six brothers and three sisters. Mr. Burden is survived by his son, Charles Michael Burden and his wife Diane of Anderson; two daughters-in-law, Donna Perry Burden and Rita Moss Burden of Calhoun Falls; four grandchildren, Michelle Burden, Jamie Burden, Jennifer Burden and Justin Burden; six great-grandchildren, Madison Burden, Riley and Katie Callaham, Devon and Jordan Burden, and Dagon Norris; special, long-time friends, William and June McCall; and his furry companion, Winston, his dog. The family will receive friends 2:00pm – 3:00pm, Sunday, May 8, 2016, in Harris Funeral Home – Calhoun Falls Chapel. Graveside services will begin at 3:30pm in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Mike McMinn and Rev. Jerry Dalton officiating. The family is at the home in Calhoun Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Burden, may be made to Northside Baptist Church, 205 Marion St., Calhoun Falls, SC 29628 or Richard Campbell Nursing Home, 4605 Belton Hwy, Anderson, SC 29621.
