Dr. Charles E. Jenks, PhD, 61 of Abbeville, husband of Linda Ann Jenks, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at his residence. He was born in New York to the late Glenn D. & Norma Wilcock Jenks. Dr. Jenks was a 1969 graduate of Abbeville High School and received his Bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina a Masters from USC Aiken and his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. He was a Professor of History at the Penn State University for 12 years and recently retired after teaching 10 years at the Augusta State University. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Dr. Jenks was a dedicated teacher and mentor to his students with whom he maintained life- long relationships. He had a great love of history and acquired an extensive library of historical literature. Dr. Jenks was involved in the exchange student programs and spent much time traveling to Sweden. His home was often open for students from Sweden and other countries. Researching genealogy was of great interest to him. Recently he had a completed history of his family. Surviving Dr. Jenks is his wife of 26 years of the home; two daughters, Tracey (Russ) Hilley and Kelly Bryan all of Abbeville; two sisters, Catherine (Terry) Cummings of Norwich, NY and Dorothy (Harvey) Stirewalt of Augusta, GA; a brother, Robert D. Jenks of Greenwood, SC; four grandsons, Russell and Quentin Hilley and Timothy and Cody Bryan all of Abbeville; two nephews, Joel and Andrew Cummings of Norwich, NY. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Dr. Jenks will be 3:00PM Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jason Wilson officiating. The family is at the residence.
