Charles J. ‘Charlie’ Kapetanakos, 81, of Tucker, GA, died Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA. He was born in Abbeville, SC to the late James Christopher and Virginia Moujourithis Kapetanakos.

Charles attended Abbeville High School and later graduated from Athens High School. He furthered his education at the University of Georgia, where he earned a degree in Education and Theology. He also attended Atlanta Law School, where he earned a degree in Law. In 1961, Charles enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, demonstrating his dedication to serving his country.

A semi-retired title examiner and real estate broker, Charles devoted 50 years of his professional career to working in real estate. He established his own title examining company, KAP Title, Inc., where he conducted title searches and served as a real estate examiner as well. Outside of his professional life, he was a man of diverse interests and hobbies. Charles found joy in hiking, traveling, and flying. An enthusiastic poker player, he cherished the friendly competition and camaraderie found at the table. 

Charles was a proud member of the UFO (United Flying Octogenarians) senior pilot global organization, pilots who have acted as a certified pilot in command on or after their 80th birthday. Stone Mountain held a special place in his heart, a testament to his love for exploration and the natural wonders that the world has to offer.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his son, Terry C. Kapetanakos and his sister, Mary K. White.

He is survived by his companion and fiancé for many years, Barbara Chambers Johnson of Tucker, GA; child, Charlie Kapetanakos (Sherri) of Tampa, FL and step-child, Candice Lichtenwalner (Joe) of Cumming, GA; step-grandchildren Daniel and Nathan; brother, Christopher Kapetanakos (Hope) of Greenville, SC; two nieces, Virginia White and Krissy White; two nephews, Jimmy Kapetanakos (Kimberly) and Peter Kapetanakos (Kimberly).

A service to celebrate the life of Charles, will be 2:00PM on Saturday, November 2, 2024, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home, 302 N. Main Street, Abbeville, SC with military honors. Burial will be in Long Cane Cemetery. A reception will be held following the burial at Sharon Manor, 12 Firehouse Rd. Abbeville, SC 29620

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Charles may be donated to AHEPA District 1 Fellowship Foundation in the name of Terry C. Kapetanakos (Charles’s late son), AHEPA Family District Educational Fund, Inc., c/o Ted Kipreos, Chairman, 925 Brook Knoll Lane, Cumming, GA 30041.
