Charles William Ward

June 30, 1920 — May 12, 2017

Charles William Ward, 96, of Iva, husband of the late Regina Desmond Ward, died Friday, May 12, 2017 at his residence.  He was born in Purdys, New York to the late Lewis R. and Ida Ward. Mr. Ward honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II, retiring as a Major.  His 22 years of dedicated service often included deployments to the South Pacific.  For his significant contributions to our nation, he was awarded with both a Bronze Star and Silver Star.  Mr. Ward was a member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis and Walt Ward and a sister, Pearl Whitman. Mr. Ward is survived by his two sons, Vance Ward and his wife, Peggy of Easley and Gene Ward of Iva; his best friend and traveling companion, Carol McKenzie. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Little Mountain Presbyterian Church with Rev. Darrell Fetzer officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Ward, may be sent to the Little Mountain Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 3836 Hwy. 28 N, Abbeville, SC 29620.
