Charlie O. Rauton, 93, husband of the late Mamie Evans Rauton, of the Nation Community, formerly of Iva, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Anderson County to the late Willis J. and Rucia Sorrow Rauton. Mr. Rauton served in the U.S. Army and the S.C. National Guard. He retired from the Rocky River Plant after 27 years where he was better known as the "Sample Man." Mr. Rauton was a member of the Fellowship Wesleyan Church in Iva, SC where he served as an Usher for many years. He was also a member of the Iva Lion's Club. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Rauton was preceded in death by his step-mother; three brothers, Henry, James and Joe; four sisters, Eula Mae, Gladys, Estelle and Ruby and four step-brothers and sisters. Surviving Mr. Rauton are his two children, a daughter, Charlene R. Giles (Bobby) of the Nation Community; a son, Steve O. Rauton of Iva, SC; two grandchildren, Michelle G. Knox (Tommy) and Kana Keller (Chris); three great-grandchildren, Gabe, Bri and Patrick; a step-sister, Ruby Boggs; his special caregiver of 14 years, Shirley Martin, and a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM Friday, August 23, 2013 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Community Wesleyan Church (formerly Fellowship Wesleyan Church), 1906 Elberton Hwy, Iva, SC. Burial will follow in Iva City Cemetery.
