Chuck Bagwell

Charles L. ‘Chuck’ Bagwell, 61, of Abbeville, husband of Beth Shuler Bagwell, died Thursday, July 4, 2024, at AnMed Medical Center in Anderson. He was born in Abbeville to the late Charles ‘Red’ and Willie Marcella ‘Monk’ Gilliam Bagwell.

A 1981 graduate of Abbeville High School, Chuck also studied at Piedmont Technical College. He owned and operated Commercial Printing and Graphics in Abbeville since 1981. Throughout his life, Chuck actively served his community and was the S.C. Emergency Medical Services Intermediate EMT of the Year for SC in 1994. He was a proud member of the Cold Spring Volunteer Fire Department since 1984, where he was a former Assistant Chief and an Engineer with the Abbeville City Fire/Rescue team which showed his passion for keeping his community safe in times of need. His commitment to public service was evident in his involvement with the Abbeville Rescue Squad for 40 years and his position as an Abbeville County Fire Service Commissioner. Chuck’s willingness to go above and beyond for others was exemplified in his role as a Technical Rescue and Rescue Diver for 35 years with the Abbeville County Emergency Response Team (ACERT) started by Chuck and Marty Thomas. He was an incredible part of the Abbeville community and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and willingness to serve others. In his spare time, Chuck found joy in the simple things – camping under the stars, working hard, fishing, boating, tackling off-roading trails and connecting with others through CB Radios. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert ‘Bob’ Bagwell; brother-in-law, Larry Shuler and father-in-law, Lawrence Edward Shuler, Sr.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 30 years, Beth, of the home; son, Andy Bagwell (April) of Abbeville SC; brother, Charles Dennis Bagwell (Barbara) of Warrenton, VA; two step-daughters, Samantha Parnell (John) of Calhoun Falls, SC and Jessica Parnell Ratliff (Bryan) of Hartwell, GA; mother-in-law, Shirley Atkinson Shuler of Chester, SC; four grandchildren, Mahala Bagwell, Jade Stone, Sidney Stone and Ann Marie Ratliff; his two favorite pets, Skooter and Winnie; two nephews, Stacy Bagwell (Renee) of Wilson, NC and Sean Bagwell (Meredith) of Charleston, SC; two nieces, Lisa Bagwell and Laura Bagwell, both of Warrenton, VA; Commercial Printing Associate, Brandon Couch; and special childhood friends, Ed Guy, Johnny Page, Marty Thomas and Barry New.
