Clara Miller Chupp, 75, wife of Vernon Chupp, of Due West fell asleep doing her crossword puzzle and awoke to the glory of Jesus on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at her home. She was born in Virginia Beach, VA to the late Jonas and Kate Petersheim Miller.
Although reluctant to leave her childhood home in VA Beach, Clara quickly came to love her life in South Carolina when she, her husband, and sons relocated in 1972. Ms. Clara, a teacher for many years, shared her passion for accurate grammar and extensive vocabulary. Known by her students to be stern, yet ever kind, she did not ask for perfection, only that they gave their best. Clara was known for her love of people; her family was her pride and joy. Her years were filled with giving to others, hosting elaborate dinner parties, and most importantly, carrying her family to her Lord in prayer. As a wife and mother, Clara tirelessly served her family, keeping her household in near perfect order. She raised her sons to highly value punctuality, manners, and integrity. Her grandchildren loved her for the time she dedicated to them, always encouraging free expression of their imaginations, with a healthy dose of silliness. Clara will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and they look forward to being with her again in Heaven.
She spoke often about her excitement to meet Jesus and be reunited with her parents, five siblings, and one nephew who preceded her in death.
Clara is survived by her husband of 53 years, Vernon, of the home; two sons, Michael Chupp of Due West and David Chupp (Benita) of Abbeville; five grandchildren, Bridgette Yoder (Jason), Brandi, Aaron, Trevor and Tony Chupp; and three great-grandchildren, Nate, Avery and Duncan Yoder.
The family will receive friends 5:00PM – 8:00PM, Friday, May 3, 2019 at Whispering Pines Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Saturday, May 4, 2019 in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home.
