Coline Gunn Cain

Coline Gunn Cain, 89, of Greenwood, South Carolina, wife of Rev. Dr. Benson Cain, died Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Hospice House of Greenwood. She was born in 1925 in Gainesville, FL to the late Colin Donald Gunn & Irene Randall Gunn. Mrs. Cain graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1947 with a degree in Home Economics. She then obtained her Director of Christian Education degree in 1949 from The Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. Mrs. Cain went to Japan in 1950 as a missionary where she taught Home Economics at Golden Castle School for Girls in Nagoya, Japan. There she met her husband, Rev. Benson Cain and they were married in 1955 in Kobe, Japan. Rev. and Mrs. Cain served as missionaries to Japan for 29 years with the Mission to the World and the Presbyterian Church, as well as serving in pastorates in North Carolina, Mississippi, and Florence, South Carolina. Mrs. Cain was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved relationships, conversations, and serving others. Surviving Mrs. Cain are her husband of 59 years; a daughter, Irene Cain Simoneaux of Atlanta, GA; four sons, Colin Benson Cain of Hawthorne, FL, Dr. Bibb Randall Cain of Abbeville, SC, Walter McDuffie Cain of New York, NY and Donald Gunn Cain of Greer, SC; a brother, Yale Randall Gunn and his wife Landis of Knoxville, TN; thirteen grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on Wed, February 18, 2015 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Abbeville, SC. Funeral services will follow in the church beginning at 2:30PM on Feb. 18. Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, SC. The family will be at the home of Dr. Randy Cain, 6 Keystone Circle, Abbeville, SC. A memorial service in Asbury Hall at Wesley Commons Retirement Community, Greenwood, SC, where Mrs. Cain resided, will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Cain may be sent to the Mission to the World, PO Box 2589, Suwanee, GA 30024-0982 or to New Hope Presbyterian Church, 136 SC Highway 71, Abbeville SC 29620.
