Daniel "Dan" Vandiver

January 30, 1930 — September 28, 2008

Daniel P. "Dan" Vandiver, 78, of Abbeville, husband of Janet Taylor Vandiver, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Self Regional Medical Center. He was born in Abbeville, SC to the late Claud and Jewell Cartledge Vandiver. Mr. Vandiver was a 1958 graduate of Erskine College and retired from the Department of Social Services. He was a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church. Dan was a devoted member of the Abbeville Lions Club with 45 years membership. He had just received his 35 year perfect attendance pin. He honorably served his country in the Marines and was a member of the American Legion Post 2 and the Disabled American Veterans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack C. Vandiver, Sr. and a sister, Floyce V. Smith. Mr. Vandiver is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janet of the home; daughter, Julie Carol Vandiver of Irmo, SC; and a brother Nathan B. Vandiver of San Antonio, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Harris Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 3:30 pm Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Abbeville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Reiny Koschel officiating. Pallbearers will be Mr. Vandiver's nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Abbeville Lions Club, American Legion Post 2 and his morning coffee buddies. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The family is at the home.
