David Thompson King, Sr., 80, husband of Wanda Branyon King, of Abbeville, died peacefully Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Abbeville to the late Julius Marvin King, Sr. and Lillian Lee Dansby King. Mr. King retired from Milliken after 45 years of dedicated service. He served in the South Carolina National Guard and was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. Mr. King was a supporter of the Abbeville Panthers and a member of the Hardee's breakfast group. He will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, Pop, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Tommy King, Jr.; a son-in-law, Tommy Ricketts; a brother, Lynwood King; and three sisters, Dorothy King Abbott, Frances King Rose, and Alice Belle King Busbee. Mr. King is survived by his wife of 56 years of the home; three daughters, Darilyn King Ricketts of Abbeville, Terry King Hughes of Abbeville, and Angela King and her companion, Randy Smith, Sr., of Calhoun Falls; a brother, Julius M. King, Jr. and his wife, Gale, of Abbeville; three grandchildren, Thad Ricketts and his wife, April, Dustan Ricketts and his wife, Katie, and Jessica Ricketts; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:30PM on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 4:00PM in the funeral home chapel.
