Dennis Eugene Atkins, 72, resident of Lexington, SC, formerly of Abbeville, went home to be with the Lord, October 31, 2019 at the Lexington Medical Center. Born in Abbeville, he was the son of the late William N. Atkins, Jr. and Mary Beauford Atkins.
Dennis, a 1965 graduate of Abbeville High School, attended the University of South Carolina. He served as a member of the SC National Guard Co. C, 151st Signal Battalion in Abbeville. Dennis was employed in management with Sears and Milliken & Co, after which, he spent most of his career operating his business, Highway 72 Motors, in Abbeville. After relocating to Lexington in 2011, Dennis was associated with Dodgeland of Richland, LP in Lexington. A member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church, Greenwood, he presently worshipped at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Lexington.
Dennis is survived by Donna Clark Atkins, Dawn Wetherley and her husband, Dennie, Denise Quickel and her husband, RD, all of Lexington and Darren Atkins and his wife, Micheal, of Camden; a sister, Pat Hutto of Kernersville, NC; nine grandchildren, Cameron Wetherley, Alex Wetherley, Laney Quickel, Jackson Quickel, Clark Atkins, Ella Atkins, Chandler Altman, Talan Bonds and Emma Grace Atkins.
The family will receive friends 5:00PM – 7:00PM, Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Monday, November 4, 2019 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Dennie Wetherley, in Lexington.
