Derrill C Driggers

Derrill C. Driggers, 94, of Abbeville, husband of Dorothy Corbett Driggers, died Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Lila Doyle Nursing Center in Seneca. He was born in Newberry, SC to the late Daniel C. and Bessie Blanche Boozer Driggers. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during WWII. Mr. Driggers served as director of the City of Abbeville Public Utilities. He retired after many years of dedicated service. His loyalty was appreciated by the entire area and acknowledged by naming the Public Utilities Building in his honor. Mr. and Mrs. Driggers have been members of Abbeville First Baptist Church since 1950. He was respected as was evidenced by his serving as a deacon many terms. He was a longtime member of the Men's Sunday School Class. Mr. Driggers was also a former member of the Abbeville Rotary Club. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel and Ralph and two sisters, Evelyn and Mary. Surviving Mr. Driggers is his wife of 67 years of the home in Seneca; two sons, Tom Driggers and Bob Driggers and his wife Libby all of Central, SC; seven nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:30PM on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin on Monday in the funeral home chapel at 3:00PM with the Rev. Dr. John Keith and Rev. Wayne Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family request memorials in memory of Mr. Driggers to be sent to the Abbeville First Baptist Church, 111 Ellis Ave, Abbeville, SC 29620 or to the Alzheimer's Association, SC Chapter, 4124 Clemson Blvd-Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.
