In loving memory of Doris Bass, 84, who entered into eternal rest on April 14, 2022 at Self Regional Healthcare after an extended illness.
Doris was born in Orangeburg Co. SC near Holly Hill, SC to Jessie W. Mizzell and Thaddis Mizell Mizzell on September 26, 1937. She was the youngest of 7 children and their last surviving child. She spent her childhood growing up in the town of Ridgeville, SC and mostly in Summerville, SC. Doris loved the low-country but made Calhoun Falls, SC her home in 1979 where she enjoyed her senior years with her late husband, Joseph (Joe) M. Bass, and many friends she loved dearly. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and homemaker and will be missed and remain in the hearts and memories of all that loved her.
Doris worked outside of the home in retail sales in Charleston, SC and a packer and box maker at Eave’s meat packing in Elberton, Georgia. She enjoyed cooking for friends and family, crocheting and making gifts, talking on the phone with family and friends, visiting with family and friends, eating at restaurants, road trips and just driving around the countryside and going to the senior dance in Lowndesville, SC on Thursday night and watching Pastor Charles Stanley’s Sunday Service. Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior praying with Pastor Stanley and visited local churches occasionally.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Nat D (Smitty) Smith; her second husband, Joseph (Joe) Bass, a step-son William (Bill) Bass and his wife Joann; her brothers Herbert Mizzell, Harold Mizzell and Alfred Mizzell; sisters, Desi Lee Chavis, Annie Mae Chavis and Viola Droze; her son-in-law, Danny D. Livingston; three nephews and two nieces.
Doris is survived by her only child, a daughter, Sandra (Sandy) Smith Brenner Livingston and her life companion Jerry Holuby, a niece, whom she loved like a daughter, Viola (Lois) Grooms Bryant, husband Wes Bryant of Iva, SC, three grand-daughters she loved dearly, Daresa (Tudi) Brenner of Summerville, SC, Deanna (DeeDee)Brenner of Moncks Corner, SC and Amanda (Mandy) Brenner of Bonneau, SC, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; beloved ex-son-in-law, David H. Brenner of Moncks Corner, SC; and a beloved friend, George Norton of Calhoun Falls,SC.
The family will receive friends 1:00PM - 1:30PM, Sunday, April 24, 2022 in Harris Funeral Home, Calhoun Falls Chapel, 526 E. Savannah Street, Calhoun Falls, SC 29628. A celebration of Doris’s life will begin at 1:30PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor John Ellis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations, in memory of Doris, be sent to her daughter for her final expenses. Her family extends their deepest appreciation to Harris Funeral Home and Pastor Ellis.
