Doris L. McGill, 76, of Donalds, died Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at her home. She was born in Abbeville to the late William C. and Katherine Bratcher McGill
Doris was a proud member of the Class of 1966 at Dixie High School, where she graduated as salutatorian. Her athletic abilities stood out during her school years, participating in numerous different sports. Doris continued her education at Piedmont Technical College, earning associate degrees in Electrical Engineering, English and as a Paramedic.
She began her working career at the age of 15 at her father’s garage, The Donalds Shell/Gulf Station, where she gained valuable experience. Doris later dedicated 46 years of her career to the Monsanto plant in Greenwood. She found joy in fishing and appreciating the peaceful moments spent in nature. Doris was a remarkable woman who treasured her time spent with family. Her warm personality and genuine love will be cherished by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Doris was a member of Winona Baptist Church
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Willie Russell Hill and Darlene Sosbee; a brother, William C, McGill; and three sisters, Mary McGill, Peggy Sue McGill and Evelyn Louise Hill.
Doris is survived by her children, James Neel Hill, Eric ‘Do’ Hill both of Donalds, Tammy Gilstrap of Belton, Hannah Blakely and Carol Strickland, both of Abbeville; three grandchildren, Kaitline Brook Osborne (Cody) of Clinton, Christian Blake Hill of Winston Salem, NC and Drew Alexander Hill of Donalds; sister-in-law, Judy McGill of Donalds; two nieces, April Ricketts of Greenwood and Amber Reaves of Ware Shoals; four nephews, Russell Hill (Amanda) of Cross Hill, Benjamin Hill of Greenwood, Brantley Hill of Cross Hill and Clayton Hill of Greenwood; three great-nieces, Brittany Hill of Anderson, Erica ‘Sue Bug’ Hill of Honea Path and Mary Katherine Moran of Rock Hill; and three great-nephews, Jacob Neel Hill of Laurens and Christopher Stone of Greenwood.
A service to celebrate Doris’s life will be 2:00PM, Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel with Rev. Matt Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Doris, may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
