Edith Campbell McElrath, 99, of Abbeville, wife of the late Jack McElrath, died peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Abbeville Nursing Home. She was born in the Nation Community of Abbeville County to the late Thomas Hoyt and Bessie Barnett Campbell.
Mrs. McElrath, a 1938 graduate of Lowndesville High School, attended Forrest Business College. She worked for 11 years with the S.C. Department of Social Services. Her true passion and ministry were the 22 years of dedicated service spent with the Piedmont Agency on Aging. Mrs. McElrath, the longest living member of Abbeville Presbyterian Church, has been attending for 79 years. She was a member of the Adult Fellowship Class, Circle 1 plus 2 and served as Chairman of the Home Circle for several years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Ann McElrath and five sisters, Mary Mann, Macie Lee Bradberry, Annie Campbell, Inez Sawyer, and Louise Bowen.
Surviving Mrs. McElrath are her children, David McElrath and his wife, Frankie, of Lexington and Mary Jane Trainor and her husband, Tom, of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Jason McElrath (Amy), Meredith Knowles (Jeff), and Christopher Trainor (Christina), all of Lexington and Matthew Trainor (Becky) of Abbeville; eleven great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Weston Jeffords, Alex and Madeleine Knowles, Jonathan McElrath, Katie Kendall, Brooks and McKenzie Winchester, Charley Trainor, and Jack and Annie Trainor; a great-great-grandchild, Marley Wright; and a number of loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30PM to 1:30PM, Monday, May 13, 2019 at Abbeville Presbyterian Church in the Telford Parlor. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Dr. Greg Henley officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.
The family is at residence of Mrs. McElrath.
