Edward Anthony Bakay, Sr., 90, of McCormick, SC, widow of Ruth Shirley Bakay, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. He was born in Passic, New Jersey to the late Frank and Ethal Pleznovky Bakay. Mr. Bakay proudly served his country in the US Naval Service as an Aviation Machinist on the USS Princeton. He survived the sinking of the USS Princeton, which was hit at the Battle of Leyte Gulf, off the coast of the Phillipines, in 1944. He retired as a tool and die maker in the metal industry in Kinnelon, New Jersey. Mr. Bakay was a member of the American Legion 0851 in PA and the Lutheran Church by the Lake in McCormick. He enjoyed camping, model airplanes, and trout fishing. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary. Mr. Bakay is survived by his five sons, Ed Bakay, Jr. and his wife Sandra of McCormick, Greg Bakay and his wife Sharon of New Jersey, Larry Bakay of Pennsylvania, Jay Bakay and his wife Lauri of NC, Jody Bakay and his wife Tracy of Virginia; his daughter, Cindy Bakay of New Jersey; his sister, Margie; and ten grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Lutheran Church by the Lake in McCormick, SC with military honors.
