Elaine Arant Jones, 78, of Abbeville, wife of the late James S. ‘Jim’ Jones, Jr., died Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Orangeburg County to the late Wilford and Lurene Miller Arant.
Elaine, a graduate of Bowman High School, also graduated from Columbia Business College. She was employed by the state of South Carolina, retiring after 26½ years of dedicated service. Elaine, active in her community, served as Past Chairman of the Abbeville Election Committee and as a member of the Voter Registration Board for ten years. She, along with her late husband, Jim, were involved in the Abbeville Cotillion Club; of which, she later became an Emeritus member.
Elaine loved and was totally dedicated to her family. She adored her granddaughters who were the lights of her life. She had a vibrant personality, contagious smile and cared for others which was evident to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Elaine was an exceptional friend to many, frequently enjoying lunch with her buddies. Yard work was a favorite past time where her landscaping ability was unmistakable and admired. A devoted member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church and the Sherry Wilson Sunday School class, she appreciated the care and concern shown by her church family.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and J.T. Champy.
Elaine is survived by her children, Michael Jones (Tammi) and Susan Costner (Charles), all of Abbeville; a brother, Perry (Dayle) Arant of Orangeburg; two grand-daughters, Alexandra (fiancé’, Scott Johnson) and Lindsay, whom she cherished; three step-grandchildren, P.J., Lauren and Giana; in-laws, Navie Carole Clariday (Donald) of Orangeburg and Robert Jones (Elba) of Roswell, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:30PM, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Abbeville First Baptist Church Christian Life Center. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 PM in the Abbeville First Baptist Church Christian Life Center with Rev. Reiny Koschel and Mr. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.
