Dr. Ella Perrin Cox, 75, of Abbeville, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Self Regional Healthcare. Ms. Ella was born in Abbeville County to the late Robert Emmett and Sara Perrin Cox. Ella was an avid reader and especially loved stories about the Civil War Era. She also enjoyed every opportunity to read about the U.S. history, S.C. history and above all else Abbeville history. Ms. Cox was a graduate of Erskine College and received her Doctorate from the University of South Carolina in 1977. Ella retired after 32 years from the public school system in Greenwood County. Her ancestor, Mr. Thomas Childs Perrin was a founding member of the Abbeville Presbyterian Church where Ms. Ella Cox was a long time member. After Ella retired from the school system, she became very involved with the Burt-Stark Mansion in Abbeville, often giving tours and telling about the history of Abbeville. She served on the board of the Abbeville Preservation Commission for many years as well as serving as a member of the DAR, UDC and the Abbeville Historical Society. Ella Perrin Cox was a resident of the Due West Retirement Center where she had made many friends all of whom will miss her dearly. She is survived by her many friends at Wylie Care at the Due West Retirement Center, several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ms. Ella Perrin Cox will be held at 10:30AM Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Due West Retirement Center. Graveside services will be 2:00PM on Saturday, March 1, 2008 in Long Cane Cemetery with Dr. Michael Bush officiating.
