Ernest R. Purser Jr.

Ernest R. Purser, Jr., 62, husband of Kathy Land Purser, died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. He was born in Abbeville, SC to the late Ernest R. Purser, Sr. and Vara C. Purser Holden. Mr. Purser served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He worked for many years with the Mohawk Industries in Calhoun Falls. Mr. Purser was a dedicated member of the Calhoun Falls Church of God, where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, Mr. Purser was preceded in death by a sister, Marinda Purser. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years of the home; a son, Ernest R. Purser, III and his wife Pamela who are stationed at the Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, CA ; a daughter, Jean Alewine and her husband Tony of Calhoun Falls, SC; a sister, Patti Gary of Greenwood; and four grandchildren, Jonathan, Kristopher, Zachary and George. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:30PM on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Calhoun Falls Church of God. Funeral services will begin at 4:00PM in the church with the Rev. Wayne Tyler, Bishop Gene Land and Rev. John Ingram will be officiating. Burial will follow in Latimer Cemetery with military honors. The family is at the home. Memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Purser, may be sent to the Hospice Care of the Piedmont, Hospice House, 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646.
