Eva Elizabeth Sanford Brown, 95, formerly of, 705 Grace Street, Greenwood, SC, widow of Millis Monroe Brown, Jr., passed away Monday, February 15, 2010, at Carlisle Nursing Center, Covenant Way, Due West, SC. Born in Monroe, NC, September 8, 1914, she was a daughter of Benjamin Franklin & Annie Jane Monroe Sanford. She was a descendant of early families from England and Scotland who settled in the southeast Piedmont area of North Carolina. Her childhood was spent in Vass and Laurinburg, NC, and she later moved with her family to Asheboro, NC where she graduated from Asheboro High School in 1932. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Asheboro where she and Millis married January 18, 1936, in the Church Parsonage. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and later moved with her husband to numerous localities including South Carolina, Puerto Rico, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Following her husbands death in 1984, she returned to South Carolina to be near family. Mrs. Brown is survived by a son, Millis Monroe Brown, III (Skip) and wife Nancy of Bluffton, SC; a daughter, Barbara Jane Brown Marcengill and husband James of Abbeville, SC; six grandchildren; James H. Marcengill and wife Whitney and Benjamin Sanford Marcengill all of Greenwood, SC, Millisa M. Bates and husband Jefferson of Columbia, SC, Karen M. Chichester and husband Mark of Huntersville, NC, Sarah B. Bassano of Tampa, FL and Kathryn Jane Brown of Boulder, CO; seven great-grandchildren, Caroline and Harrison Marcengill of Greenwood, SC, Tanner and Noah Marcengill of Ninety Six, SC, Blakely, Carew and Mills Bates of Columbia, SC; a sister-in-law, Mary B. Parker of Asheboro, NC and a brother-in-law, Gordon S. Brown of Lansing, MI. In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a sister, Lois Sanford of Salisbury, NC, two brothers, William Blythe Sanford of Asheboro, NC and Benjamin F. Sanford., of Gainesville, FL. Graveside services will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, February 19, 2010 in Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro. The family will greet friends immediately following the services.
