Evelyn Page Ashley, 84, of Abbeville, died peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Hospice House in Clinton. She was born in Abbeville to the late Frank L. and Myrtle Edwards Martin, Sr. She was twice married, first to the late Ed Page and then to the late Buddy Ashley. Mrs. Ashley retired after 45 years from the Milliken-Abbeville Plant and was a member of South Side Baptist Church. She was active in her church, as well as her community. Mrs. Ashley enjoyed being a part of the Friendship Sunday School Class, volunteering at the Abbeville Area Medical Center and the Hospice of Laurens County Thrift Store. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter Becky Bullington, and two brothers, Jim Martin and John L. 'Pepper' Martin. Surviving Mrs. Ashley are her two daughters, Gwen Cartledge and her husband Tom of Mountville, SC and Betty Floyd and her husband Carl of Newton, NC; a sister, Betty Turner of Abbeville, SC; a brother, Frank L. Martin, Jr. of Greer, SC; a step-daughter, Peggy A. Payne; step-son, Van Ashley and his wife Amanda all of Abbeville; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Sunday, December 22, 2013 at South Side Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tom Cartledge officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the services on Sunday at the church. A private burial will be held in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family is at their respective homes.
