Frances Marian Wilson Hagen

Frances Marian Wilson Hagen, 92, of Abbeville, died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at her residence. She was born March 3, 1915 in the Smithville area of Abbeville County to former Abbeville Police Chief, the late John Robert (Bob) Wilson and his wife Janie Bell Rogers Wilson. She married Joseph Walter Hagen (Deceased on October 12, 1998) on February 15, 1936 in Greenville, SC. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grubb (Ruth Blanchett) was in attendance. The Rev. W.R. Bouknight performed the ceremony. Mrs. Hagen was a graduate of Abbeville High School class of 1933; she attended and graduated from Draughn Business School in Greenville, S.C. in 1934, and attended Five Points Beauty School in Atlanta. During her high school years, she worked as a clerk at McClellana?(TM)s Dime Store in Abbeville. After graduating from business school, she was a legal secretary for Jim Nichols in Abbeville and also worked in the Abbeville County Clerk of Courta?(TM)s office. Later Mrs. Hagen worked as a beautician in Margaret Kaya?(TM)s salon in Abbeville and also worked in Ms. Modocka?(TM)s salon in Greenwood. She worked at the Milliken Abbeville Plant for 13 years. After retirement in 1963, she was a homemaker. A Presbyterian by faith, Frances attended Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church in Abbeville. After her marriage, she became a member of Main Street United Methodist Church of Abbeville. She lived in Abbeville most of her life, but also lived in Clinton, Holly Hill, Columbia, and West Columbia, SC. She and her husband, Walter, operated a bowling alley in Clinton, SC. Frances was fastidious with yard work and gardening, and she enjoyed sewing, reading, and cooking. She spent many hours slow-cooking chili for hotdogs at Hagen Bros. Billiards. Mrs. Hagen had a kind, quiet, and special way with children and animals. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her four siblings; Raymond W. Wilson (Sarah Bryant Milford); John R. Wilson, Jr. (Opal); Mary W. Edwards (Winfred); and Helen W. Bryant (Orell). Mrs. Hagen is survived by her four children: Marian H. Milks, Wimberley, TX; Jayne H. Davis, Cedar Bluff, AL; Susan C. Hagen, Abbeville, SC; and Kim G. Hagen, Columbia, SC; two grandchildren: Joseph C. Milks (Amanda), Wimberley, TX; and Ronald M. Davis (Amie), Cedar Bluff, AL; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside Services to Celebrate a Life Well Lived will be held 2:00PM Sunday, September 23, 2007 in Long Cane Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Tony Kobukowski. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the residence. The family is at the home of Mrs. Frances W. Hagen.
