Franklin Parnell

Franklin D. Parnell, 89, of Abbeville, husband of Juanita Graham Parnell, died Saturday, January 6, 2024, at his residence.  He was born in Lowndesville to the late Porter Parnell and Annie Charping Parnell.

Franklin honorably served his country in the United States Army.  He retired from the grocery business, having been employed with Winn Dixie for 35 years as the produce manager.  Franklin’s passion for his work extended beyond Winn Dixie; he also made lasting contributions during his time at Gurley’s and Ingles.  Franklin found joy in coin collecting, a hobby that allowed him to appreciate the thrill of discovering unique pieces.  Most importantly, he held a deep appreciation for his family.  Affectionately known as ‘Papa’, his family meant the world to him.  Franklin cherished every moment spent with his loved ones and leaves behind a legacy of devotion and care.  He was a member of Abbeville First Baptist church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Sanders ‘Bubba’ Parnell, Howard Parnell, David Parnell and Aaron Parnell; two sisters, Betty Ruth Mauney and Frances Page; and a great-grandson, Cole Henderson.

Franklin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Juanita, of the home; four children, Darrell Parnell (Cathy) of Abbeville, Deborah Henderson (Dan) of Johnston, Randall Parnell (Debbie) of Woodruff and Teresa Hayden (Dean) of Aiken; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 10:00AM – 11:00AM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Abbeville First Baptist Church.  A celebration of Franklin’s life  will begin at 11:30AM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Chris Sullivan officiating.
