Gary W. Wiles

Gary W. Wiles, 85, of Abbeville, husband of Patricia ‘Pat’ Wilson Wiles, died Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Iva to the late Reese and Isabell Brown Wiles.

A 1958 graduate of Calhoun Falls High School, Gary began his career at several organizations including The Press and Banner, Liberty Life Insurance Company and Prince Motor Company. He owned Wiles Printing Company for 25 years before retiring, leaving a legacy of dedication and hard work. Gary continued to contribute to his community by working at the Mt. Olive Church Road Recycling Center in Abbeville County.

He was also well known for his spirit and dedication to the community. For over 30 years, he entertained folks at the Lowndesville Community Center, the nursing home and The Renaissance, playing guitar with the ‘Able Raiders’ band. An enjoyment of classic country music, photography, golf, dancing and camping brought him much joy and happiness. He and his wife, Pat, shared countless moments on the dance floor, demonstrated by their membership in the Southern Squares, where their love for square dancing flourished.

As an enthusiastic supporter of youth sports, Gary was a Dixie Youth Coach for the Lions baseball team, instilling values of teamwork in the young athletes he guided. He was also a valued member of the Abbeville Jaycee’s and Clinton Lodge # 3 where he was recognized as a Mason and Hejaz Shriner.

Cherished by many, Gary embraced the roles of loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with passion. His affection for children knew no bounds, alongside an adoration for his dogs and his beloved ‘Monkey Cat’. Gary lived a life that was rich in love, laughter and community service. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Gary is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pat, of the home; three daughters, Lisa Wiles of Abbeville, Sandra Wiles Reepe (Mike) of Powdersville and April Wiles Martin (Terry) of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Kevin Reepe (Liz), Anna Reepe Sheorn (Zac), Neil Abercrombie (Jessica) and Brian Abercrombie (Tia Nelson); four great-grandchildren, Connor, Izzie, Zoey and Walker; three step-grandchildren, Josh Martin (Olivia), Brooke Horne and Justin Lollis (Morgan); and eight step-great-grandchildren, Rylee, Gunner, Jasper, Austin, Landen, Colton, Hartley, and Beau.
