George William “Butch” Busbee, Jr., 78, of Troy, husband of the late Sandra Link Busbee, died Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Hospice House in Greenwood. Butch was born in Abbeville, SC, the son of the late George William “Billy” Busbee, Sr. and Alice Belle King Busbee.
A 1964 graduate of Abbeville High School, he honorably served his country for six years in the SC Army National Guard, Abbeville unit. While in high school, he ran cross country, setting a new state record during his senior year. During his meets, he would always wear red socks for good luck.
Butch was employed with Pirelli Cable, now Prysmian Cable, retiring after 42 years of dedicated service. He had a passion for the lakes and fishing for catfish. Once retired, he began making sought after catfish bait, meal cakes, along with handmade wire baskets. Butch truly enjoyed time spent with his family traveling. He was an enthusiastic Abbeville High School Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, and Carolina Gamecock fan. Butch was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Brian Cox.
Butch is survived by his family, Stephen (fiancée Haley) Busbee of Abbeville, and children Hunter (Logan) Busbee Jackson, Logan Busbee, Sawyer Busbee, and Wyatt Busbee; Kevin (Marissa) Busbee of Abbeville and children, Payton Busbee, Ella Busbee, and Colton Busbee; Jennifer (Michael) Davenport of Greenwood and children, Brock Davenport, and Presley Davenport; one great grandson, Seb Jackson son of Hunter and Logan Jackson. Also, survived by a brother, Lee Busbee of Calhoun Falls, and children, Jonah Busbee and Jolee Beth Busbee; sisters, Mary Alice (Richard) Little of NC, and children John, Chris, Melissa, and Matthew Little; Merry B. (Vardon) Cox of Due West, and children Matt Cox, Brandon Cox, Tara Cox (Ben) Setzler; brother-in-law Dennis Little of Beaufort, and sister-in-law, Connie Link of McCormick.
A celebration of Butch’s life with military honors will be held, 5:00 PM, Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Buffalo Baptist Church with Pastor Bo Willis officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff and doctors at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood for their exceptional love and care.
