Gerald 'Red' D. Sutton, Sr.

Gerald D. ‘Red’ Sutton, Sr., 75, of Abbeville, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 8, 2023. He was born in Luzerne, PA to the late Cecil Lawrence Sutton and Doris Kreiger Sutton.

‘Red’, as he was affectionately known by many, graduated from Dallas High School in Dallas, PA in 1966. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marines. Red dedicated many years of his life working with the City of Abbeville Public Works Department and later at Lowndesville Country Diner. Throughout his life, he held strong to his Methodist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil Sutton, Jr., Calvin Sutton, Bud Sutton, and Richard ‘Dick’ Sutton.

Survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Lou Sutton, Red leaves behind a legacy cherished by loved ones. He will be forever remembered and missed by his three sons: Gerald D. Jr. (April), Donald Jason (Haley), and David Eric Sutton, all residing in Abbeville. Red is also survived by two brothers, Bill and Ronnie Sutton; eleven grandchildren: Samantha (Ech), Devin (Madison), Sydney (Skyler), D.J. (Keri), Ryanne, Wyatt, Jonathan, Joshua, Cheyenne, David Eric Jr., and Darrah; along with two great-grandchildren: Emerson and Clayton.

A celebration of Red’s remarkable life will take place at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the Harris Funeral Home Chapel. Following the service, the family will receive friends and family.
