Geraldine B Gable

Geraldine Bruce Gable, 90, of Abbeville, wife of the late Wallace Neil Gable, died Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at her residence. Born Juanita Geraldine Bruce on May 24, 1931, in Iva, SC, she was the daughter of the late James William ‘Will’ Bruce, Sr., and Cora ‘Elise’ Sutherland Bruce.

A 1949 graduate of Iva High School and a 1952 graduate of the Anderson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Mrs. Gable was employed as a nurse from 1952 – 1996. She served in several hospitals during her nursing career, retiring from AnMed Health in 1996. Mrs. Gable was a member of the Community Wesleyan Church (formerly Fellowship Wesleyan Church) in Iva, SC.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Wallace Gable; four sisters, Dorothy “Willise” Cheek, Etta “Angeline” Gaines, Nana Elizabeth Bruce and Shirley Ann Powell; and a grandson, Tracey Adam Vargo, Sr.

Mrs. Gable is survived by her daughter, Shelby Vargo of Abbeville, SC; brother, James William ‘Billy’ Bruce, Jr. (Eleanor) of Tyrone, GA; two sisters, Alice Willis and Sue Butler (Raymond), all of Iva, SC; four grandchildren, Sandi, Chris, Matthew and Steven; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00AM, Saturday, November 6, 2021, in the Harris Funeral Home Chapel. The family will visit with friends following the service. Due to Covid 19, the family requests everyone wear a mask. A private burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
