Gloria Evans Campbell, 90, of Abbeville, died Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Abbeville Nursing Home. She was born September 11, 1933 to the late Edgar Clayton Brown, Sr. and Ada Lou Dawkins Brown. Mrs. Campbell was twice married, first to the late William John (Billy) Evans, Jr. and second to Edgar T. Campbell, Sr.
She dedicated 40 years of her life as co-owner of Evans Texaco and Grocery in Abbeville, leaving a lasting impact on her customers. Throughout her career, Mrs. Campbell touched the lives of many in her community with unwavering dedication and commitment. Prior to marrying, she worked at her parent’s mercantile – Brown's 5¢ & 10¢ store. Mrs. Campbell enjoyed trips to Elijah Clark or Twin Lakes and picnics with her little girls with her aunt and cousins. She also enjoyed shopping trips with her sister, Barbara, beach trips with family, and relaxing camping trips at Calhoun Falls State Park. Mrs. Campbell was a very good cook and talented seamtress making beautiful clothes for her four daughters. She was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and attended Solid Rock Church in Calhoun Falls.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry K. Brown and Edgar C. ‘Buddy’ Brown, Jr.; sister, Virginia Lou Brown; two grandsons, John Christopher Simpson and William Jesse Sutherland; and son-in-law, Tommy M. Bradberry.
Mrs. Campbell is survived by her sister, Barbara Crawford; four daughters, Debra Simpson (Johnny), Brenda Bradberry (Tommy – deceased), Judy Willis (fiancée, Mike Fowler) and Jane Erwin (Wayne); two step-sons, Franky Campbell and Tommy Campbell (Sue); eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5:00PM – 7:00PM, Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00PM, Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in Lebanon Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff of Abbeville Nursing Home and HomeBridge Hospice for their loving care.
