Harlan C. Bizzell, 93 years old, died May 17, 2015, at Savannah Commons. He was born October 19, 1921, in Norway, SC, to Zebulon D. and Vera Delle Garick Bizzell. He retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad in 1981 after working 41 years as a dispatcher. Harlan was a life-long Presbyterian and was a deacon and elder in Hull Memorial Presbyterian Church in Savannah, and was a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was an accomplished wood worker and carpenter. Harlan loved the outdoors, particularly fishing, and he was a genius at making up his own jokes. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Gladys Milford Bizzell, his second wife Helen Tucker Bizzell, and his sister Henrietta Bizzell Bennett. Gladys Milford, his first wife, grew up in Abbeville County and graduated from Erskine College in 1939, went to teach school in Norway, SC where she was introduced to Harlan. Gladys was the daughter of William J. Milford and Mamie Milford of Abbeville County. She was the mother of survivors, daughter Anne Bizzell Salley (the Rev. George) of Savannah, and son Franklin Bizzell (Julie) of Clermont, FL. Harlan is survived by Anne's children, his grandchildren, Amy Salley of Atlanta, and Stephen Salley (Elizabeth) of Savannah and their twins Bridget and Evelyn Salley. He is also survived by Franklin's sons Travis Bizzell and Justin Bizzell, both of Ocala, FL; as well as, several nieces and nephews. Graveside service and burial will be 11:30AM Wednesday, May 20, 2015, in Long Cane Cemetery, Abbeville, SC.
