Harry Nance, 92, of Abbeville, husband of Bessie Lee Fleming Nance, died Thursday, February 4, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Abbeville to the late John A. & Legal McElroy Nance. Mr. Nance attended the First Baptist Church of Abbeville. He retired, after many dedicated years of service, as an accountant with the Shell Oil Company in Abbeville. Mr. Nance served his country in the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant during WWII as a member of the 305th Bomber Group. After leaving the Air Force, he joined the Army Reserves in the 3013 Station Compliment in Greenwood serving as a Warrant Officer. Mr. Nance retired from the Army Reserves after many years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post #6087 and American Legion Post #2. Mr. Nance was a man who was proud of his military service and the part he played in helping to keep our country free. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Mary Nance. Surviving Mr. Nance is his wife of 65 years of Abbeville; a niece, Carolyn F. Bannister of Stone Mountain, GA; a nephew, Carroll "Buster" Fleming of Ninety Six, SC and a great-nephew, Lucas Lee Bannister of Stone Mountain, GA. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bobby Cutter officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.
