Helen Hedden Black, 103, wife of the late Frank P. Black, formerly of Abbeville, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 in West Columbia, SC. She was born in Pelzer, SC to the late Allen and Frances Long Hedden. Mrs. Black worked for many years at the Abbeville Milliken Plant. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church in Abbeville where she belonged to the Dorcas Sunday School class and the Lamplighters (Sonlighters). Mrs. Black enjoyed her church, her home, her family and her friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Burts Hedden and Joe Hedden; four sisters, Thelma Kelly, Edna Parsons, Mildred Able and Lila Byers. Mrs. Black is survived by a daughter, Margaret B. Smith, of West Columbia, SC; a son, Ray Black, of Hartwell, GA; three grandchildren, Charles Black, Sheryl Shelley (Dudley) and Tim Smith (Ramona); five great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:30PM on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Funeral services will begin at 2:30PM on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Black, may be made to South Side Baptist Church, 505 W.
