Jack "Daddy Jack" Whaley

Jack "Daddy Jack" Whaley, 90, of Abbeville, husband of Martha Bowie Whaley, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson. He was born in Abbeville County to the late John Henry and Maud Wilson Whaley. Mr. Whaley retired as an Engineer with the Seaboard Coastline (CSX) after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Abbeville where he had served as a Deacon for many years. Mr. Whaley was a member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge #3 and had served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in WWII in the Military Railway Transportation Division. He is survived by his wife of 66 years of Abbeville; a son, Jack Daniel "Danny" Whaley, Jr., and his wife Bonnie of Due West; two daughters, Suzanne W. Sorrow and her husband Spencer, and Lucile W. Culbreth and her husband Mike all of Abbeville; eleven grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:30PM to 3:30PM on Friday, June 20, 2008 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 4:00PM with the Rev. Wayne Wiggins presiding. Interment will follow in Gilgal United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Whaley, Due West, SC.
