Jake O. Trantham, 84, of the Savannah Lakes Community, husband of Carolyn Sinn Trantham, died Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Hospice House in Greenwood. He was born in Seneca, SC to the late Rufus O. and Dorothy Sanders Trantham.
Jake was a graduate of Greenwood High School and a member of McCormick First Baptist Church. He served the community of McCormick, SC with integrity and honor through his role as a Magistrate Judge for more than 40 years of dedicated service. Jake was a jack of all trades. He was equally at home on the fairway, introducing a friend to the open waters, or settling legal disputes. Jake never shied from a challenge, and he eagerly jumped at any opportunity to help a friend in need. Perhaps nothing personified his spirit more than troubleshooting a broken faucet at his doctor’s office during an appointment.
Whenever he was not at his beloved lake house, Jake could be found mowing a neighbor’s lawn, easily fixing a plumbing nightmare, or cleaning fish for a big neighborhood fish fry. He found joy in spending time outdoors, especially on the lake and golf course. Whether casting a line into the water or perfecting his golf swing on the green, one thing could be certain: Jake was dressed to impress.
Those fortunate enough to have known and loved him will never forget his enduring legacy of service and generosity. His was a life well lived, and his legacy will live on among his treasured family and innumerable dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Hudson. He is survived by his two sons, Keith Trantham (Roxanne) and Greg Trantham (Donna) all of Abbeville; two step-sisters, Terri Bussey and Suzanne Gates; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
