James Thomas Ashmore, 84, of Calhoun Falls, SC, son of the late Mr. Fred Ashmore Sr. and Mrs. Jannie Reed Ashmore died Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Self Regional Healthcare. He was born on May 24, 1937, in Calhoun Falls, SC and was educated in the public schools of Abbeville County. James left school as a young man to help his parents support his sisters and brothers.
Mr. Ashmore was employed with Mohawk Industries, retiring after 20 years of service. Previously he had been associated with Calhoun Falls Mill and a construction company. Mr. Ashmore was a lifelong member of Springfield Baptist Church in Calhoun Falls and the Sons of Aide.
James Thomas, affectionately known as Mule or Uncle Mule, enjoyed playing checkers with his siblings and younger family members. He had the ability to outsmart everybody on a checkerboard. After he finished a game, he would always yell “Next” and proceed to beat one family member after another. He loved his family and his family loved him.
In the addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Charles Ashmore, sisters, Mattie Allen, Geraldine Smith, Martha Murray, Ruth Dawson and her husband Clement, a stepson, John Baskin, and a brother-in-law Roosevelt McCullough.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, son, James Christopher Ashmore of Calhoun Falls, brother, Fred Ashmore Jr. (Nancy) of Calhoun Falls, sisters, Evelyn Gray (Henry), Ida Hudson (Willie) of Calhoun Falls, Marie McCullough of Greenville, Barbara Crawford (Frank) of Abbeville, and Sarah Boyd (George) of Watkinsville, GA, brothers-in-law, Robert Allen, Willie Smith, and Reynolds Murray. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
James leaves a trail of Love, Understanding, Courage, Compassion, Support, Sacrifice, Strength, Inspiration, Joy, Faith, Happiness and Humor on the map of his life for us to follow.
The family will receive friends 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Friday, October 8, 2021, In Harris Funeral Home, Calhoun Falls Chapel. A Graveside Service will begin at 12:30 PM at Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery with Minister, Carolyn Murray, Evangelist, Peggy Holland, Brother Stephen Bradshaw, Minster Elaine Williams, and Rev. Johnny Waller officiating.
