James H. “Jim” Bell, 71, husband of Karen Brogden Bell, of Abbeville died Sunday, September 23, 2018. He was born in Lodi, OH to the late John Robert and Wilma Criebs Bell.
Jim was a graduate of Northside High School in Warner Robins, GA and the South Carolina Police Academy. He was employed with the Abbeville Police Department, retiring later from the Calhoun Falls Police Department after 25 years in law enforcement. Jim, of the Baptist faith, was a member of the Abbeville Clinton Masonic Lodge #3, A.F.M. and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was known for his gregarious personality which led to many happy hours spent with friends at Lynn’s Café, Ferguson’s Produce and the Abbeville Post Office. Jim often shared his efforts in cooking and baking; he was especially appreciated for his chocolate cakes. Jim enjoyed golfing and along with his wife, was a proficient shagger dancing to beach music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Thomas Bell and a sister, Bonnie Kaye Bell.
Jim (“Poppy”) is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karen, of the home; his children, Jimm Bell (Laura), John Ryan Bell (Ursula), Kathy Berry (James), Connie Dalton (Todd) and Gina Suber (David); a brother, Bill Bell; eleven grandchildren, Zack, Thomas, John Ryan, Dylan, Berkley, Matthew, Jackson, Jessica (Talin), Blake, GG and Walter; two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Wyatt; and his extended family, Debbie, Ray, Maria, Michael, Chezney and Jacob.
The family will receive friends from 4:30PM – 5:30PM, Friday, September 28, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6:00PM in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James Long officiating.
