James Perry Brown, Sr., 81, of McCormick, husband of the late Margaret L. Brown, died Monday, November 8, 2010 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC. He was born in McCormick County to the late Herbert Brown and Agnes Gilmer Brown Drennan. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Bobby" Brown and a sister, Dot Trantham. Mr. Brown was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years. He also served his country during the Korean War and in Indo-China during the early 1950's when the French were at war with Vietnam. Mr. Brown retired from the S.C. Army National Guard as a Master Sergeant with 16 years of service. He was a former councilman for McCormick, SC and a member of the McCormick First Baptist Church. Mr. Brown is survived by a son, James 'Jim' P. Brown, II and his wife Mona of McCormick; a daughter, Holly B. Wilson of Abbeville; a step-son, Arthur Clift of California; two step-daughters, Lyndia Duprecee of Myrtle Beach, SC and Joyce Reed of Sacramento, CA; a brother, Herbert Brown and his wife Jeanette of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Harris Funeral Home. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be 2:00PM Thursday, November 11, 2010 in Overbrook Cemetery, McCormick, SC. The family is at the home of Ms. Holly B. Wilson.
