James ‘Jim’ Gilbert Burgan, 80, of Iva, husband of Alice Johnson Burgan died Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at his home. He was born in Coldiron, KY to the late Gilbert and Josie Blanton Burgan.
Jim retired after a 35-year career as a truck driver and was also involved in the construction business. As a talented artist and former member of the Abbeville Artist Guild, he often painted landscapes including the mountains and beaches once visited. Jim enjoyed playing golf and chess and listening to country music. He had a soft spot for animals and will be remembered for his kind, honest and sensitive demeanor.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Alice, of the home; sons, Rick Burgan (Carmie) of Simpsonville and Edwin ‘Ed’ Burgan (Sue) of Anderson; a daughter, Lori Ann Wilkerson (Dr. Rick Wilkerson) of Washington State; a sister, Jo Ann Brown, of Indiana; four granddaughters; four grandsons; three great-grandchildren and another on the way. Jim also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be 1:00PM, Friday, May 15, 2020 in the Harris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Bobby Jones officiating.
