James C. 'Jimmy' Ellis

James C. ‘Jimmy’ Ellis, 86, of Abbeville, husband of Edna Earl Capps Ellis, died Saturday, November 16, 2024, at his home. He was born in Abbeville to the late James Marvin Ellis, Sr. and Rebecca Ware Ellis.

After graduating from Dixie High School, Jimmy began a long and fulfilling career in the textile industry, retiring from Bloomsburg Mill in 2002 after 25 years of service as a textile mechanic. Throughout his career, he worked for four different companies in the Bloomsburg building. Following retirement, Jimmy and his wife found joy in serving as a campground host at Calhoun Falls State Park. He was also an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR racing, which brought him much joy and excitement.  A proud Mason and Shriner, Jimmy participated in the Dew Drop Lodge #266, where he held the distinguished role of past master. He was a member and past elder of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a two daughters, Sherrie Canfield and Patricia Campbell; brother, John Marvin Ellis, Jr.; granddaughter, Tanna Scott; and son-in-law, Bubba Canfield.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Edna Earl, of the home; son, Jimbo (Linda) Ellis of Abbeville; daughter, Connie (Bobby) Scott of Abbeville; sister, Jean (Tommy) Fleming of Iva; twelve grandchildren, Delane (Barry) New, Jeremy (Cherie) Scott, Leighanne (Michael) Scott, Brittany Scott, Dusty (Carley) Scott, Shanna (Tim) Lovett, Christopher Prince, Justin (Casey) Campbell, Carl Keith, TJ Keith, Angelina Ellis and Jessica Ellis; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00PM, Monday, November 18, 2024, in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Darrell Fetzer and Billy Capps officiating. 

Memorial contributions, in memory of Jimmy, may be sent to the Bubba Canfield Scholarship Fund, c/o Dixie High School FFA, PO Box 158, Due West, SC 29639.
