James Earl Campbell, Sr., 76, of Abbeville, husband of Deborah Campbell, transitioned to his Heavenly home Friday, March 28, 2025, at Self Regional Healthcare. He was born in Laurens to the late William Earl Campbell and Blanche Martin Campbell.
Mr. Campbell was a graduate of Piedmont Technical College, Lander University, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served his country during the Vietnam War. Mr. Campbell’s career spanned many various roles, reflecting his versatile abilities and dedication. He was a pastor of two churches, including Lowndesville Baptist Church. His career also consisted of significant contributions to Carolina Springs Academy, Liberty Life Insurance, and Bi-Lo. Mr. Campbell loved his family, especially his grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. His interests were varied, including frequenting yard sales, doing yard work, and sports; where he enjoyed marbles, basketball and baseball. Mr. Campbell was a member of the Lions Club in Laurens and Bible Baptist Church in Abbeville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Campbell Boone; and sister, Norma Jean Campbell Jackson.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 23 years, Deborah, of the home; children, James E. Campbell, Jr. (Amy), Jennifer Pruitt (Rob), John Todd (Stephanie), and Jessica Bull (Michael); two sisters, Gail Campbell Waters (Danny) and Nancy Campbell Mahida (George); and eleven grandchildren- Blake, Julia, and Jessi Boone; Erin and Jonathan Campbell; Anna Pruitt; Allie Todd; Mason, Cabe, Eli, and Hayes Bull.
A service to celebrate Mr. Campbell's life, with military honors, will be 2:00PM, Sunday, April 6, 2025, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Scotty Willoughby officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations, in memory of Mr. Campbell, be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
